International Law Assistance
International arbitration is a complex and evolving field of law, and the need for deeply knowledgeable legal counsel is paramount.
For our International Arbitration Practice Group, international arbitration isn’t the occasional instruction: it’s all we do. Our deep and varied practice sets us apart and affords our clients invaluable insight into winning strategies and arguments. Our group’s collective experience brings with it unrivalled knowledge of arbitrators, institutions, expert witnesses and opposing counsel, which can make the difference in the outcome of a dispute.
We have the largest international arbitration practice of any firm. Our arbitration lawyers are based in the key arbitral centers of New York, Washington, DC, London, Paris, Geneva, Stockholm and Singapore, and we have significant on‑the‑ground arbitration capability in Mexico City, Miami, Houston, Madrid, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Moscow, the Middle East, Hong Kong and beyond. We cover every jurisdiction, arbitral forum and industry sector, and work under multiple laws and in diverse languages.
We act for global corporations, financial institutions, foreign investors and sovereign states, and we have a high number of repeat clients. They turn to us because they trust our skill, experience and reputation to achieve the best possible outcome, and because our partners personally handle their cases.
We continue to be recognized by clients and industry observers alike as a unique top brand practice. The legal directories, including Chambers Global, The Legal 500 and Global Arbitration Review, place our practice at the very top. Members of our team are among the highest‑ranked international arbitration practitioners in the world.
Wellings & Williams International is a proud signatory of the Courts worldwide. Legal & Forensic Medicine
Legal medicine: The branch of medicine that deals with the application of medical knowledge to legal problems and legal proceedings. Legal medicine is also called forensic medicine.
A physician may be engaged in legal (or forensic) medicine while a lawyer with identical interests is said to be in medical jurisprudence. It just depends upon the direction you are coming from.
Forensic medicine, investigative technique, and criminology play an increasingly important role in the everyday work of both judges and prosecutors. Unfortunately these officials do not get a sufficient education in these fields in the course of both their studies and the subsequent practical training. The conference pursues the goal of catching up on these subjects by showing both the possibilities and limitations of forensic medicine, and also by demonstrating modern investigative technique as well as special methods in the field of criminology.
The following items will be discussed by the means of lectures and ensuing discussions:
- New developments and tendencies in the field of forensic medicine
- forensic thanatology
- forensic traumatology
- forensic toxicology
- forensic anthropology
- forensic entomology, zoology, and botany
- forensic aspects of DNA analysis
- taking and assessing expert testimonies, in special consideration of Federal Appeal Court decisions
- taking up the scene of the crime during first access/practical aspects of criminological techniques/cooperation between police, public prosecutor, and the coroner's office
- operative case analysis vs. profiling
Intellectual Property
Ideas, tangible or not, are the most important things to protect in today’s competitive creative market. With so many channels and constantly replenishing feeds to watch out for, tracing the ownership and originality of a design, brand name, or invention needs the laser-focused eye of a trained attorney. We’ll handle the search, application, and filing process of trademarks, copyrights, and patents. And if your idea has been infringed upon, our litigation team will negotiate the best possible licensing and settlement agreements.
Art Litigation
Demystifying art law is in itself a creative practice. It requires finesse, strategic structuring, and, in many ways, empathy. At the end of the day, art and its worth is profoundly personal. In such matters, mediation or arbitration almost always yields the most fulfilling results. However, should the occasion arise, our lawyers are more than prepared to move into litigation. From artists, agents, dealers, galleries, museums, and auction houses, our clients have always walked away from their disputes or deals knowing that their core interests were preserved.
Digital Media & Technology
The internet, software, and technology are so pervasive that we can’t remember having ever lived without them. They make our lives simpler, but behind the curtain are fluctuating challenges in protection and monetization; challenges that our firm stays two steps ahead of. We’ve helped engineers, inventors, gaming startups, and entrepreneurs develop, license, sell, and maintain ownership over their creations. We’ve also negotiated purchasing and partnership agreements for larger investment companies looking for their unicorn.
Liability & Risk
Whether you run a theater, recording studio, or an eCommerce website, all businesses need to minimize their legal liability and risk. Our lawyers will assess the structure of your operation, such as its physical or digital space, the types of products you sell, who your consumers are, what type of company you have filed under (LLC, Inc, etc.), and so on. From there, we will tailor the right risk plan, complete with permit applications, insurance policies, and more, so you can worry less about liabilities and concentrate on growing your business.
